RANT: Once Bitten

My husband claims to love chocolate chip cookies, yet, he will leave a partially eaten cookie on the counter for up to a week (this, to me, is not real love).  I, on the other hand, truly love chocolate chip cookies, so I usually gobble up his presumably forgotten remnants when he’s not looking. He has asked me not to do this, I guess on the the off chance that he’ll remember his castaway cookie, go looking for it, only to find his ravenous wife has enjoyed it before the mold did.

In a recurring attempt at will-power, I periodically vow to give up sweets. During these ‘exercises’, we’ll call them, I find his abandoned treats to be inevitable failure traps.  The unwrapped, partially sampled, haphazardly re-wrapped cookie, so available, yet so callously tossed aside.

How could some un-devoted someone, enjoy this sursy incompletely?  Take only a taste, then discard it without wanting more? Like a predatory male who takes a lover, enjoys her for a temporarily delicious triste then abandons her before morning, though she has so much more to give.

Perhaps these uneaten morsels are actually evidence that my husband is not the full blown sugar addict that I am.  Or was until I learned the secret of “crowding out” and eating clean.
